No Recovery, No Fee: How Contingency Works

What does a contingency agreement mean? It’s an agreement where I only get paid if we get a recovery. My pay is contingent on getting a recovery on behalf of my client. It works the other way too — if we don’t get paid, then my client doesn’t owe me anything.
This is what makes the core of the contingency agreement work. It also works in a positive way for those who are victims and normally wouldn’t be able to afford to pay an attorney an hourly rate. They can still get representation on the claim they are now carrying.
Honestly, I’m lucky enough to be in a very unique section of law where my clients’ and my interests are tied at the hip due to the contingency agreement I have. That’s why I take a partnership approach to dealing with my clients’ cases. It’s their claim, not mine. That’s why I try my best to give guidance on not only what is going on but also the why. It’s about building that trust and being upfront when things are going well — and, more importantly, being upfront if I see any storms headed our way.
